Without it, your products cannot be imported into China, sold there or used in Chinese commercial activities. It’s that simple.

It is administered by the CNCA (Certification and Accreditation Administration of the People’s Republic of China), and factory inspections are carried out by the CQC (China Quality Certification Centre). Chinese bodies, Chinese auditors, a Chinese process.

The legal framework has been in force since 2002, but the number of Spanish companies exporting to China has kept growing. According to ICEX, Spanish exports to China grew by 37% in February 2025 and exceeded €1.3 billion in the first two months of the year. The sectors with the strongest presence are chemicals, automotive components, food and — increasingly — industrial and construction materials.

If you manufacture or export in any of these sectors, CCC is probably already part of your operations. Or it should be.

The certification process: what you already know (or should)

According to DEKRA Certificación, a European body accredited to issue CCC certificates, the process involves the following steps:

Application and documentation

Type testing in a CNCA laboratory + initial factory inspection by the CQC (approximately 1 month)

Evaluation of results (~2 weeks)

Issue of the certificate (~1 week)

Application for permission to print the CCC mark on the product (~2 months)

Annual follow-up inspections at the factory by the Chinese authorities

Without specialist help, the process can drag on for 6 to 18 months. With support, it’s done in 4 or 5. Any company that has been through it knows this.

What isn’t always taken into account lies in that last step.

The part nobody mentions: the annual audit

CCC certification is not a one-off formality you can forget about. To stay valid, it requires annual factory inspections. The auditors — sent by the Chinese authorities — come to your facilities for one or two days and review your quality management system, production processes, technical documentation and compliance with standards.

The working language is Chinese.

And here’s something many people don’t know: the Chinese auditors who visit the plant don’t usually have a level of English sufficient for a technical audit. It’s not a cliché; it’s what we see year after year. They can get by with basic phrases, but as soon as the conversation turns to process terminology, production records or non-conformities, communication breaks down. And if there is a discrepancy between what the auditor notes down in the report and what you are trying to convey, the consequences are there in writing.

What we see on the factory floor

For more than five years we have covered the annual CCC audits of a leading ceramics company in Castellón.

In the first year, they went into the audit without a professional interpreter. One of the company’s technicians spoke intermediate English and another had a smattering of Chinese from a course he had taken years before. That was how they intended to handle two days of technical auditing.

The lead auditor needed to discuss in-line quality control procedures, machinery maintenance records and final product inspection criteria. Terms you won’t find in any basic language course.

In the end they got through it, but with more tension than necessary and with some notes in the report that could have been cleared up on the spot with a technical interpreter at their side.

They contacted us for the next audit. And ever since, the same Chinese auditors have asked every year for the same interpreter to cover the visit. It’s unusual for an auditor to request this explicitly. When it happens, it’s because the professional’s expertise and the trust they inspire are obvious to everyone involved.

What kind of interpreter you need for a CCC audit

Not just any Chinese–Spanish interpreter will do.

A CCC factory audit involves discussions about quality management systems (standards equivalent to ISO 9001), industrial manufacturing processes, sector-specific technical documentation and, in some cases, answering non-conformity questions in real time.

The profile that works is a Chinese–Spanish consecutive interpreter with experience in industrial settings: someone who knows the terminology, understands how these audits are structured and can keep up with the auditor’s pace over two days on the factory floor.

Consecutive interpreting is the right mode for this context: the auditor speaks, the interpreter takes notes and renders the content into Spanish, and vice versa. No booths or special equipment. Just a professional acting as a bridge between two parties who need to understand each other precisely.

The critical factor isn’t the language in the abstract. It’s the technical terminology and the ability to handle a high-pressure situation where a misunderstanding has documented consequences.

How we handle this service at Overseas

At Overseas Translations we have Chinese–Spanish interpreters specialising in industrial and technical contexts. For CCC audits — or other inspections by Chinese bodies at Spanish plants — the service includes:

A Chinese–Spanish consecutive interpreter with a technical and industrial profile

Advance preparation: before the visit, we go over the sector-specific vocabulary and the scope of the audit with the client’s team

On-site presence throughout the inspection (usually 1 or 2 days)

Document coordination: if any reports need translating before or after the audit, we handle it as part of the same service

We cover the whole of Spain. We work with clients in engineering, construction, materials and industrial manufacturing, the sectors with the strongest presence in the Chinese market and the most frequent active CCC audits.

If you have a CCC audit coming up or want to arrange the service well in advance, get in touch. The sooner you plan it, the easier it is to assign the right profile and — where possible — the same interpreter as in previous years.

Do you hold an active CCC certificate with an annual inspection on the horizon? Tell us about your sector and the expected date, and we’ll explain how we can help.

Contact Overseas Translations

CCC certification requires annual on-site audits by Chinese auditors.
